Rajasthan launches new higher education model

-> A new higher education model has been launched in Rajasthan for distribution of faculties and movable assets among the government colleges at the district level to rationalise the availability of resources.

-> The model will create a pool for sharing of facilities which will benefit the colleges lacking infrastructure.

-> Minister of State for Higher Education Bhanwar Singh Bhati inaugurated the model, titled Resource Assistance for Colleges with Excellence (RACE).

Udaipur set to host India's largest education Brainstorm

-> The third edition of India's largest education brainstorming event, the ScooNews Global Educators Fest (SGEF) will be held on August 09 and 10 in Udaipur- the City of Lakes.

-> It will bring together over 500 educators to discuss the way towards establishing India as the next global education powerhouse.

-> The theme for this year's fest is 'Education for Sustainability: Moving on from conformity to creativity'.

India to participate with Pakistan, China in SCO exercise

-> The exercise called ‘Tsentr (Centre) 2019’ is tentatively scheduled to be held from September 10 to 21 at Orenburg. All the eight Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states, including India, Pakistan and China, will be taking part in the exercise.

-> The exercise will work on demonstrating the employment of forces of coalition states in countering international terrorism and providing military security in the Central Asian region. About 140 troops of an Indian Army unit will be participating in the exercise.

Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman to get Vir Chakra

-> The India Air Force has recommended Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman for the Vir Chakra medal for shooting down an F-16 in an aerial engagement with the Pakistan Air Force on February 27.

-> In the past, during wars, pilots who shot down enemy fighters were all given Vir Chakra medals.

-> The Vir Chakra is the third highest gallantry award in the military during times of war after the Param Vir Chakra and the Mahavir Chakra.

RBI brings in Central Fraud Registry, a likely major gamechanger for banking

-> The Reserve Bank of India will create a Central Payment Fraud Registry to monitor digital payments related frauds on a real-time basis and provide customers with periodic aggregated data of risks associated with individual payments operators in a bid to improve customer confidence in these channels.

-> “In order to carry forward these efforts and ensure quick and systemic responses, it is proposed to facilitate the creation of a Central Payment Fraud Registry that will track these frauds.

7 kg parrot roamed the earth 19 million years ago, fossil found in New Zealand

-> The remains of a super-sized parrot that stood more than half the height of an average human and roamed the earth 19 million years ago have been discovered in New Zealand.

-> Judging by the size of the leg bones, the bird would have stood about one metre (39 inches) tall and weighed up to seven kilograms (15.5 pounds), according to a report by an international team of palaeontologists published in the latest edition of Biology Letters.

-> The parrot has been named Heracles inexpectatus to reflect its Herculean size and strength -- and the unexpected nature of the discovery.

The Highest-Paid Female Athletes 2019: Serena And Osaka Dominate

-> The Forbes 2019 female athletes rich list saw Serena Williams again secure the top spot as the world’s highest earning female athlete with total earnings of $43.2 million ($US29.2m).

-> The American champion has now secured the top spot for four straight years and remains the most recognised female athlete around the globe.

India secures 1st position in stage1 of Army International Scout Masters competition

-> An Indian Army team has secured first position in the first stage of the ongoing Army International Scout Masters competition.

-> Eight countries are participating in the competition, which has five stages.

-> The first stage of the competition which involved tactical drills of mounting in a helicopter by the scout squads to infiltrate behind enemy lines.

-> The troops’ cross-country navigation skills by night over a distance of approximately 15km in a hostile territory were also tested in this stage, a defence spokesperson said.

-> India secured the first position, the second position was secured by Kazakhstan and the third by Russia.

-> Uzbekistan, China, Belarus, Armenia and Sudan secured 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th position respectively.

5th National Handloom Day

-> The 5th National Handloom Day was held on 7th August at 16 NIFT Campuses and Weavers’ Service Centres in different States across the country.

-> Handloom Mela and exhibition, workshops, panel discussion were organised and special stalls were put up for handloom products at Gandhinagar and Kolkata NIFT campuses.

Nation observes 77th anniversary of Quit India movement

-> The 77th anniversary of the August Kranti Din, which is considered as one of the important milestones in the history of freedom struggle of our country, is being observed.

-> On 7th August in 1942, Mahatma Gandhi gave a clarion call to end the British rule and launched the Quit India Movement at the session of the All-India Congress Committee in Mumbai.

-> After the failure of Cripps Mission, Gandhiji gave the call to Do or Die in his Quit India speech delivered at the Gowalia Tank Maidan in Mumbai.
