IAF launches mobile game 'Indian Air Force: A cut above


-> IAF’s latest 3D Mobile gaming application ‘Indian Air Force: A Cut Above’ was launched by Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa.

-> In a bid to make the youth aware about Indian Air Force (IAF) and encourage them to join the armed forces, Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa launched a combat-based mobile game `Indian Air Force: A cut above` on Wednesday.

Triple talaq bill passed by Parliament

-> In a major political win for the Narendra Modi government, the triple talaq bill cleared Rajya Sabha hurdle. Put to vote after a lengthy debate, the triple talaq bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha with 99 to 84 votes.

-> The Supreme Court had declared the practice of instant triple talaq unconstitutional and a divorce pronounced by uttering talaq three times in one sitting void and illegal.

Infosys opens cyber defence centre in Romania

-> Infosys announced the launch of its state-of-the-art Cyber Defence Center in Bucharest, Romania.

-> The Defence Center is an expansion of services delivered through Infosys Digital Innovation Center which opened in Bucharest earlier this year.

-> The Defence Center will provide end-to-end, real-time, 24/7 cyber security monitoring and protection services to support European and global businesses on their digital transformation journey.

Bangalore becomes India's best city for students; London tops globally

-> UK's capital London has been named as the world's best city for students for the second consecutive year, beating international cities like Tokyo and Melbourne that came second and third respectively.

-> The 'QS Best Student Cities Ranking' compiled by global education consultancy QS Quacquarelli Symonds highlights each city's performance across six categories - the number of top-ranked universities; the proportion of a city's population made up of students; quality of life on offer; job opportunities available after graduation; affordability; and the feedback of the students themselves.

-> According to the rankings, India's best student city is Bangalore (81st), followed by Mumbai (85th), Delhi at 113 and Chennai at 115 out of a total of 120 cities ranked in the list.

Postal dept decides to convert India Post Payments Bank into SFB

-> The Postal Department said it has decided to convert the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) into a small finance bank (SFB), enabling it to offer small loans to customers.

-> Besides, the department also looks to open one crore accounts for IPPB in 100 days.

-> The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said Economic Affairs Secretary Atanu Chakraborty has been nominated on its central board.

-> "The central government has nominated Atanu Chakraborty, secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, New Delhi as a director on the Central Board of Directors of Reserve Bank of India vice Shri Subhash Chandra Garg,".

World's smallest fossil monkey found in Amazon

-> Scientists have uncovered remains of the smallest fossil monkey — no heavier than a hamster — ever found in Peru's Amazon jungle.

-> A team led by Duke University in the US and the National University of Piura in Peru found an 18-million-year-old fossilised tooth belonging to a new species of tiny monkey.

-> The specimen is important because it helps bridge a 15-million-year gap in the fossil record for New World monkeys.

Cabinet approves ISRO Technical Liaison Unit at Moscow

-> Cabinet has given nod to the setting up of ISRO Technical Liaison Unit (ITLU) at Moscow in Russia.

-> The unit will collaborate with Space agencies and industries in Russia and neighbouring countries for mutually synergetic outcomes.

-> Australia all-rounder Ellyse Perry became the first cricketer of either gender to reach the rare milestone of scoring 1000 runs and taking 100 wickets in the T20 format.

UP Govt to install 251-metre-tall statue of lord Ram in Ayodhya

-> The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to install a 251-metre-tall statue of Lord Ram at Ayodhya which would be taller than the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's Statue of Unity in Gujarat. It would be the world's tallest statue.

-> Lord Ram's statue would be installed on the 100 hectares of land near River Sarayu in Ayodhya.

Wing Commander Tarun Chaudhri becomes first IAF pilot to complete wingsuit skydive jump


-> Wing Commander Tarun Chaudhri has become the first Indian Air Force pilot to perform a wingsuit skydive jump.

-> Chaudhri achieved the feat on July 21 during the Kargil Diwas celebrations at Air Force Station in Jodhpur.

-> The jump was accomplished from a Mi-17 helicopter from an altitude of 8,500 feet. This is the first IAF Wing Suit Skydive Jump by a pilot who has flown and captained the same type of helicopter.
