WhatsApp is currently more concerned about the data & privacy thus taking a big step to make each transaction transparent by working on fingerprint authentication feature for Android smartphones as firstly reported by WABetaInfo. As per the report of WABetaInfo, WhatsApp was said to be on the way to bring this similar feature for iOS with two biometric authentications--- Face ID and Touch ID.
As reports suggest this fingerprint authentication feature is in under development and in the alpha development stage but no any user has used this feature till now as this feature is disabled from the backend for the beta version of Android 2.19.3. Once this feature get activates, users ought to scan their fingerprint to start the app. At the current state, WhatsApp supports two-step authentication with the pin.
Once this feature goes live this functionality of fingerprint authentication will be found within Settings -> Account -> Privacy. Although users can build their own protection layer over it by applying the screen lock pattern/password/pin if users found fingerprint authentication less secure. Soon this feature will be live for all Android smartphones running Android 6.0 Marshmallow or above with working fingerprint sensor.
